Teacher of the Deaf (TOD)

We at ESU recognize the various service and educational delivery needs of districts, students and teachers. It is because of this, that we have created our unique Hybrid eServices! The Hybrid e-service model provides direct, real-time support for professionals. These services combine the best features of in-district, classroom, and student consultation sessions with the convenience and advantage of virtual support and training, all with our highly qualified NJDOE certificated staff who specialize in all areas offered.

ESU has one of the largest groups of highly qualified Itinerant NJDOE Certified Teachers of the Deaf in the State of New Jersey. Our specialized TODs possess expertise in total communication, ASL, spoken language and cochlear implants. Working closely with D/HH students, regular/special education teachers, case managers and parents, our teaching approach concentrates support on meeting the specific goals and strategies in relation to the student’s: auditory, linguistic, social, self-advocacy, literacy and transition needs. We offer comprehensive in-person evaluations, with a live or virtual intake and report of findings meeting. Consultative services begin with an initial in-person teacher consultation. Regular in-person support with the student and consultation with the teachers either live, via email, phone, and/or online is available.
